Event: J. Cole @ The Xfinity Center, Mansfield (August 6th)

Forest Hills Drive Tour - PumpTheBeat.com

Saying I’m amped for this show would be a severe understatement. Class acts like J. Cole and Big Sean perform side-by-side at a more than adequate venue to house both their acts.

J. Cole’s newest album 2014 Forest Hills Drive is a deep and methodical criticism of the artists own adolescence. With each song he focuses on a different aspect of his struggle through adolescence. He shows the listener first-hand how he was able to fight through his rough childhood to get to where he is today: on stage in front of thousands cheering his name.

The tracklist in the album shows his progression from childhood (“Wet Dreamz” and “January 28th”) to adolescence (“Apparently” and “G.O.M.D.”). J. Cole shows us the struggle of being a child and wanting to grow up. However, he also explores that awkward stage of adolescence where he is expected to act like an adult, but still treated like a child.

Regardless, 2014 Forest Hills Drive evidently has a strong emotional appeal to its artist which bodes well for the live performance on August 6th. If you don’t yet have your tickets, don’t pass up the opportunity to see this legendary performance. Buy those tickets ASAP and I’ll see you there.

“IDFWY (Meaux Green Remix)” by Big Sean

Yep, we knew this was inevitable. For most hip-hop tracks, trap remixes are a solid option. Meaux Green takes on the challenge of creating a remix of Big Sean’s “I Don’t Fuck With You.” Meaux Green only takes Big Sean’s sample, but I honestly think that was enough.

The remix sounds like a DJ Snake / Dillon Francis inspired track. The big room trap sounds are what add the extra flare to the original track. Big Sean would be proud.

“Kingpin” by RL Grime ft. Big Sean

rl grime big sean pumpthebeat.com

RL Grime’s clearly ready to release his debut album “Void.” To hype up his album, he’s been slowly releasing his tracks through his SoundCloud page. First, we got the epic “Core.” And a few weeks ago, he unleashed “Scylla.” Now, we’ve got a collaboration with Big Sean.

For this track, there’s definitely a different sound from the other two tracks. If you pay attention to the instrumental, “Kingpin” maintains the Middle Eastern theme that RL Grime seems to be using in most of his tracks. To compliment this eerie sound, Big Sean hops on the mic for some verses.

Video: “I Don’t Fuck With You” by Big Sean

Oh man this is so late but fuck it. Bottom line, you get on Big Sean‘s bad side and he’s gonna make a dope ass song about how he doesn’t fuck with you. Imagine thousands of people screaming a song that’s basically a big middle finger to you. Yea…

This highly entertaining video paralleled with the all-star produced “IDFWU” is a home run for Big Sean who didn’t quite get the reaction he wanted to his latest album. Lots of guest stars in this video like Kanye West playing as the Head Coach of Big Sean’s football team. DJ Mustard, E-40 (weak verse), and more are also in there. Notice the adidas apparel? His 4th Quarter EP is that quick comeback he needed. Get familiar.

Video: “Open Wide” by Calvin Harris ft. Big Sean

Ever find yourself watching a Calvin Harris music video and just wondering ‘what the fuck is going on’? Yah, every video. But we can’t complain cuz the songs are always good. “Open Wide” is another high-tempo dance track infiltrated with Big Sean’s lyrics about break ups. Looks like he’s still salt.

With only a week left until Motion is released, Calvin Harris casually sits and watches as everything unfolds in this video and in real life. This album is shaping up to be something crazy.
